In order to have a Print Competition, there must be at least 4 makers with at least 10 prints, or there cannot be a Print Comp.
For the Print Comp, the entry fee is $10 for up to 4 prints entered. The print must be mounted and titled. It can be matted, but cannot be framed or under glass. Images of any shape and size are allowed but must be mounted on a minimum 8xl0 up to a maximum 16x20 mount board, having a total thickness between 1/8 inch and maximum 3/8 inch. The prints are given to the Print Chairperson, hidden from everyone, the sign-in sheet (listing each print by maker and title) is filled out, and a slip with your name and title is fastened to the upper back of each mount, in the direction that is to be shown. As each print title is announced, it is then shown, for the first time, to the Master Photographer judges who will score it, from 1 to 100. The scores are averaged to arrive at the score for that print. Prints may be critiqued now or at the end of the Competition. The prints with the third highest scores are then presented as the finalists for the judges to determine: 3rd place, 2nd place, 1st place, and Best of Show. All four receive a ribbon.
WPPA Print Rules for the Quarterly Competition:
Any member in good standing is entitled to submit prints.
Any print NOT receiving the Best of Show or 1st Place, but whose maker deems that it can be improved upon, may re-enter it at the next Competition, but only once.
The 16 ribboned prints from the prior calendar year are then presented in February to compete for the Carol Phillips Print of the Year Plaque.
Though WPPA will attempt to treat all submitted work with the utmost care, it is not responsible for any damage or loss that may occur during the submitting of entries. Except in proven cases of malice or gross negligence, WPPA is not responsible for any unfortunate or unwelcome occurrences and/or damages that may befall entrants or their entries as a result of participation in the Print Competition.
All work submitted to print competition must be the work of the submitting photographer, especially with regard to image capture, composition and artistic vision, OR produced under the artistic direction and supervision of the photographer.
Any print which has previously scored at state or PPA Print Competitions will not be allowed to be entered at our section print competition.
